‍LeapSprong2.0 Award including ETCA membership

Hexwise is looking to further evaluate and demonstrate how theirdigital twin technology can structurally improve the performance of air-cooledcooling systems across industrial assets.

‍

During the LeapSprong 2.0 six-month support program, Hexwisewill work with the Shell technology team at the Energy Transition CampusAmsterdam (ETCA). The collaboration focusses on a proof-of-concept study toquantify the impact on cooling efficiency, production capacity, energyconsumption and emissions intensity with real operational data. By turningexisting operational data into continuous, decision-ready insights, Hexwise enables more effective operational, maintenance and investment decisions. Theoutcomes will inform scalable pilots and create a pathway towards broaderdeployment, supporting the MRA’s and Shell’s ambition to strengthen operationalperformance while reducing emissions across industrial assets.

Hexwise will work on the proof-of-concept as a new member atthe ETCA. In parallel, Hexwise will further explore synergies with othermembers in the digital cluster on campus.

What’s next: Upheat

‍LeapSprong2.0 Award

‍

Industrial sites in the Amsterdam region face increasingpressure from high energy prices, grid congestion and ambitious climatetargets, while large amounts of waste heat remain unused. Upheat addresses thischallenge with its oil-free, high‑temperature heat pump thatupgrades waste heat to process‑ready steam at 100–200°C.

‍

The next step is a first commercial industrialdeployment that demonstrates measurable energy savings and CO₂ emission reductions. During the support phaseof the programme, Upheat has identified prospective industrial sites in the Amsterdamregion. During the LeapSprong 2.0 six-month support programme they willcollaborate with these prospects on a robust business case. By creating aproven reference project in the region, Upheat aims to accelerate replicationacross energy‑intensivesectors such as Food & Beverage, Chemicals and Pulp & Paper, supportingelectrification and reducing dependence on fossil‑based steam generation while improvingoperational cost competitiveness.

During the LeapSprong 2.0 six-month support program, Parastruct will work on a Proof-of-Concept, focused on transforming bottom ash from waste processing companies into high-value construction materials. Leveraging Parastruct’s expertise in material science and recycling technologies, this collaboration will enable waste processors and potentially steel producers to convert waste into a valuable resource, reducing landfill use and CO₂ emissions while supporting regional sustainability goals.

Through this Proof-of-Concept, Parastruct will start by analyzing bottom ash streams from the Afval Energie Bedrijf (AEB). Depending on the results, Parastruct will define process steps, and propose integration strategies to create a marketable application of the bottom ash such as building materials.
